With reds separated it still does it.

Problem from the breaker to the switch. Inspect where the cable enters the backbox and see if the cable is scorched. If not then an electrician is what you need.

Problem is from the switch to the light fitting. You can inspect the wires where it enters the fitting. Again, if not, then an electrician is what you need.

So this morning I thought let’s just try & switch the breaker on first & see what happens. My plan was to then separate the 2 red wires.

I switched it on & fine. I operated the light & worked fine.
At that point I had left it a while & no issues

So last night with the small amount of light I had was removed each red wire & put it back. I then removed the earth wire & gave it a wire brush & put it back in the square location piece.
I separated the 3 black wires which had a bit of dry rusty dust on them & also used wire brush on these.

I then started this post.

With regards the earth wires in that square location is it actually doing anything ?
I mean the back box is plastic & it’s screwed onto a wooden partition.
I can only assume it’s where it is to keep it out the way of the other wires as opposed to flapping around.

I ask as it didn’t look that great & was thinking of putting it into a choc block on its own.

The earth wire is there for metal switches which yours is not. Leave it connected where it was. If the light is working then everything should be fine. Which light fitting is in use?

Plastic light also screwed to wooden wall. Plastic on off switch.
Plastic back box.
Nothing metal.

No, I meant the light fixture - not the switch.

The earth connection is also for continuity of earth to the next fitting. They (3) need to remain connected to each. They are not doing nothing.
