Hi All

This thing is driving me mad and I am upsetting my family. I tell them to slowly shut cold water tap. Grown ups do but my young ones won't. I have tried reducing mains pressure it stops for a little while but doesn't cure the problem. So my expert friends what is causing hammering. Can I sort it out. Thank you in advance.

Just loose water pipe(s). Usually only the mains cold. With a combi, the hot can contribute as well.
Just clip them

Pressure reducing valve  shutting stopcock redces flow -not pressure

It doesn't reduce the static pressure.... The more flow restriction you have the more the pressure (and therefore flow) will fall when you try to take flow from downstream of the restriction. .
