Mains water supplies don't need to be buried

BB, do you know if Moles are still used?

Yes, without a doubt. Water, gas & electric are still being installed with them.

Their use wouldn't be banned just becuase of a service strike (otherwise JCB's would have been outlawed years ago, along with shovels).

You may find the individual company has been told they aren't to use one again by the HSE unless they improve H&S practices (tracing/locating other services etc).

You have a point. The Irish wouldn't be able to get any work......

water regulations G7 gives guidance on underground pipes
basis is 750mm down in ground minimum and sleeved through any wall or floor

ask a contractor in the street if he wants a private job i'm sure they would be more than happy to relieve £150 - £200 from your wallet and will do the job to spec.

We all know that, that was the point of the post. Although the pipe can actually be installed in the position it is in provided it is installed in a compliant way (the merits of which we were discussing)

We've already seen the problem with getting something done "on the side", hence picture 1. I'm also yet to see a cash in hand job done as a foreigner installed in a compliant manner.
