Based on all the imformation you have given ,it mght be.
If the staircase has just one wall on the side of it,opposed to having a wall either side and it is a standard size staircase ,then it is relativley easy.
Thanks for that Splinter, there is just a wall on one side ...Is fixing the newel post difficult ....I have an existing opne but I want to replace it ?
The newel-post is fixed to the bottom of the stringer with a mortise and tenon joint or at least should be .So you would need to buy a appropiate staircase
