Bought a slab of fossils and my original intention was wall mounting, however on delivery finding out it was 300kg I realised my cavity wall wouldn't hold it without some over the limits of my contract re-working.
Current plan is a solid oak stand agaisnt the wall looking something like this:

Would anyone be able to tell me if this would be suitable to hold the weight safely? I'd affix some small brackets holding the slab against the backing area to prevent a topple as well.

Currently awaiting a quote from a timber company who say it might have to be several pieces affixed together rather than one solid chunk

Personally I'd put it as close to the floor as possibe. 300kg could do a lot of damage to anything it comes into contact with - long-term to your plinth, and short-term to people's toes!

Haha, no kids thankfully. By the time I'd get round to that I'll be in a place with brickwork to mount onto ;)
