what kind of "piping" do you propose to use? for what purpose?
if its water pipes you can use plastic pipes, and work from above and drop them down in the stud bay behind the P&L picking them up through a small hole near the floor or behind the skirting?
the most pain free method of cutting a chase in P&L is to use a small circular saw (Aldi do a cheap 85mm one) set shallow enough to cut only the P&L.
first drop two plumblines to mark the chase then cut the lines with a stanley knife and then use the saw - someone else can hold a vacuum to pick up the dust.
dont go bashing anything - laths can overlap and are held in with tacks ie. they are fragile.
