I would like an Electrical engineer to make connections with SWA cable that I have installed from my house CU into the CU in my garage, from the house CU the first connection would be into an adjacent isolation switch, the next connection would be into a junction box on the back of the house where the cable comes out of the ground from the garage and then a connection into the garage CU, I like to leave this kind of work to the pro's so chaps any idea of how much or there abouts, cheers

as with most "how much " questions, get several quotes, from electricians

see 9 it expalins why

Cheers Breezer, thats what I normally do 'get several quotes' but I don't always go for some cheapo plastic sparky or some overpriced ponce in a van full of decals just want the job done well and to spec, like the CU I had installed for £250 and it all went in his back pocket, hard life ain't it.

It's called money my friend and you guys are extracting the Mick when it comes to having work done, so please don't take the P--- out the punters like me, I think I will go on some home study course on the 'bleedin electrics/ rip off merchants', and then go on mastermind answering questions on the bloody obivious :D

and would you buy all the reg books and all the test meters to test before making live would u do the work to bs7671. would you register in a compentent persons scheme under part p? Add the cost of that up and then tell me we are rip off merchant.

where are you, someone may be able to offer, or be recommend someone local.

that is very unlikely, but a nice thought. DIYnot.com does have a directory for "specialists"

Clearly someone who has no idea of what things cost to do properly, you know the cost of somthing and the value of nothing is what we say.

but its also true of most diy things not just electrical, but to press a button and there is light people think it must be easy

Without the van or the like my 'go it alone' costs were £12.5k last year. Each year we have to get our kit calibrated at about £60 +vat per piece of kit. If we register with the NICEIC year one will be +£1000 and each year after about £500, with certificates costing about £15+VAT for 25 or you can get 50 of the minor works ones for this. The regs books cost £45 and the On Site Guide is £15. Then it costs about 40p/per mile to run the waggon. Phone line per anum anyone?? Advertising £1000? computer runnig costs etc. That's after sitting C&G and doing updater courses etc. After all this we get to a point where we can consider insuring our business to take on the risk associated with walking into some DIYers house and sorting his mess out as the place is about to burn down. Now if you want it done cheap..... get a painter to do it he doesn't have the overheads.

Yea we must be raking it in!

I say he's a sad and ignorant little man, who will spend his whole life bitter and twisted about the cost of things, and never getting any decent goods or services because he won't pay enough.

The words "Ha", "ha", "serves", "right" and "him" come to mind.
