Mandatory ID cards (Brit Card) to be announced tomorrow

If it comes to pass, I'm not convinced an ID card will have much if any positive impact on reducing illegal immigration. Your thoughts?

It cannot do any harm, if properly and securely implemented. It will deter immigrants, because one of draws for them, is the ease with which they can become part of the black economy.

Government to announce their plans tomorrow.

Predominant reason for the card (at present) is for it to be shown if seeking employment i.e. to crack down on illegal workers. Card to be checked against central database to ensure its legitimacy.

Citizens will likely be asked to produce the card in other scenarios (tbc).

To be called the Brit Card (tbc).

Primary driver is to reduce illegal immigration.

I’ve mentioned this was loaded and ready to be fired out a few times.

What next I wonder….

That will be a big fat no then - the gov does not have a good track record on that - neither do anyone - ask M&S ask Jaguar Land Rover etc

Problem - reaction - solution. Now we know why they wont stop the boats.
Digital ID and the fact black rock have investments in a few things. Remember when Starmer welcomed them to the UK….

Wait until they start building little villages etc to home the immigrants.

People are so stupid. Here's the thing that will solve the problem we deliberately created. Honest. Oh errr good, thank you almighty leaders, tell me where to sign.

Employers are already required by law to check the ID of staff, by whatever means. E.g. a passport, bills, etc etc. Those who already just don't bother aren't going to suddenly start checking some ID database. We're all being lied to.

The problem is, the employers of the black economy are fully aware they're employing illegals already.
A lot pay the traffickers and make them work off the debt for years once here.

This will be the final nail in starmers coffin - and Labours, all farage has to say is he will scrap them if they come in and its a shoe in for him at number 10 - What's his stand on it ?

If it was genuinely for the benefit of the public, and to combat illegals living in the UK, it would be a physical card. Anybody with an ounce of sense knows that the implementation of a digital ID is all around control. It's basically the beginnings of China's social credit score system. Goods and services will be channelled through the ID system and will be denied to 'undesirables'. Our carbon footprint will be stored against our ID and we'll be charged more for travel, or banned completely, if it's too high. And so on.
In the past I would have answered 'aye right!' to such a post.

The way things are going, you may well be right.

Other parties already coming out against the proposal. Will be interesting to see if it gets the votes to be carried through.

We won't stop much (any?) of it now, the way tech is progressing, it'll be ever easier for government to physically stop you from doing things should they so desire e.g. 'in the interests of public safety.'

I can easily see a future where cars might be temporarily limited to certain zones (e.g. covid mk2) and if you try to leave the zone, the car goes into limp mode until you return to your designated zone.

Governments have consistently proved they cannot be trusted with data. This is a bad idea and it will make Identity theft easier. I hope they abandon the plans. It's a massive con to pretend it will help reduce illegal immigration.

Hopefully the next government will scrap them.. again.
