Mandatory ID cards (Brit Card) to be announced tomorrow

by showing leadership and doing the right thing
to give Britain the clear legal authority and operational capacity to physically stop these dangerous crossings
If we can secure that
It’s time we stopped arguing about stopping the boats and actually stopped them
You’ve said a lot but haven’t come up with any solutions

You say “we should be tougher”, please could you explain how

NOTE:

A) UK has no legal authority over France
B) U.K. can’t take them back to France
C) U.K. border won’t push back boats for fear of drownings
D) once on British soil they can’t be returned to home come country without an agreement.

Government to announce their plans tomorrow.

Predominant reason for the card (at present) is for it to be shown if seeking employment i.e. to crack down on illegal workers. Card to be checked against central database to ensure its legitimacy.

Citizens will likely be asked to produce the card in other scenarios (tbc).

To be called the Brit Card (tbc).

Primary driver is to reduce illegal immigration.

If it comes to pass, I'm not convinced an ID card will have much if any positive impact on reducing illegal immigration. Your thoughts?

Will be a guard dog with no teeth

What difference would a digital id card make to our lives? Zilch in my opinion, it is just another app on your phone or a card to carry in your wallett.
