I have just taken one of my boys to a swimming lesson at our local leisure centre.

Now, either I am prematurely ageing into a Victor Meldrew or else there are many rude people around.

Going into the centre, the main door was half blocked by teenage girls who refused to move. We had to shove past: no amount of "excuse me's" were heeded. No doubt they thought we were the rude ones...

Then the foyer was blocked with adults. Again, no-one seemed to care that we were struggling to get through.

Finally, on leaving the boys communal changing room, the doorway was blocked with yet more teenage girls. This time I waited to see if they would let us go, but no. So I said "excuse me", only to be greeted with an under-the-breath "Keep your f'in hair on mate".

Am I a miserable b*stard, or are some people downright rude?

I'm only 41, but clearly remember my Grandmother teaching me manners, as she was by her Mother. Is each succesive generation becoming less well-mannered?

I'm only 22, but I also remember my mother teaching me manners and getting a good slap off my dad when i mis-behaved. And if I ever become a father I will teach my kids manners too. Its basic, but so many kids are brought up with no respect for their elders.

You should have stood there listening into the converstaion and every so often butt in with "hmmm is that right? I would never have guessed that" and make sure you have wide open staring eyes as you said them so to look totally deranged, then time how long it takes for them to move :)

Older people always complain about young ones.

If it's not the goths it's the punks or the skinheads or the Mods and Rockers or the Teddy-boys.

It wasn't like that in my day

I'm 26 and often work in schools, I find it extremely frustrating to say the least when I have to squeeze past the little snots after repeatedly saying "excuse me"

Only yesterday I was carrying cordless drill case in one hand, hand tool case in another and sds drill under arm, had to squeeze past a group of them and was amazed to have the comment "how rude" sneered at me.

Totally out of order, your dad should have slapped you for misbehaving and not your mother.

Bad manners befalls all age groups.

Played golf today and paired up with a chap of 73yrs, his manners where fine but whilst chatting I could not believe how racialist he was. Had to say something after one of his outburst, he then retorted "how rude youngman, how rude". Just laughed and then had to appologise for laughing at him.
Had me woundering what he would have said had I come out with the comments, maybe he would of give me a thick ear

It would have taken me at least 30 minutes to squeeze past ... Up REAL close

You were SHOUTING and EMPHASISING words .
They were the one giving it "Before I complain to my electrician"
which is not the best way to start on an electrical forum.

Who sounded like he done a good job, before they took out what they knew were blown alutech lamps and replaced with what they called cheapo B + Q lamps.

Part p is partly about, providing information to maintain the installation after completion.

Unfortunately what they did is quite a common occurence , considering the client usually picks the lights and would get instructions for each light, stating the required lamp, which they like many chose to ignore.

It is not really a genuine mistake, more a fact they wanted to buy cheaper lamps and not the right dearer ones, so should have chose fittings accordingly.

The words emphasised were mainly COOLFIT and COOLBEAM these are two opposing types of lamps and are emphasised in most lamp literature, and for a reason due to the problems caused by mixing up the two.

However I still do not agree with your response.
And with a comment like yours I regret having bothered with them.
If I was not friendly, I would not have tried to help for over two hours,if you read their replys to me and daytona, they did not appear to be over friendly and I was about to give up on them, but politely continued.
