Mapei plaster primer

I am going to tile my bathroom. The walls are overboarded and plastered. Removed old tiles and just need to scrape some adhesive off. Am I right in thinking I need to prime the walls. I planned on using plaster primer by mapei. Should I brush it on neat or dilute it? Could this primer be used on a tiny bit of chipboard that needs tiling on at the back of the bath? Or would another primer be more suitable?
