I've got two marble Victorian fireplaces.

They're original and the house is some 150years old.

One's an off-white and is badly stained with smoke. I'm told it is proper marble, were as the other is dark grey and I believe is reconstituted marble.

Is there any way I can clean them up and get a shine on them. I've tried bleach and various other cleaners that have make no impression at all.
Or is this a job for a professional?

Have you not tried looking for dedicated brands like HG.
They for example do 'stain colour remover', 'spot stain remover' or' stone and marble stripper' Look to eee which is most appropriate for you.
As for a shine,, they do a 'marble polish' or 'wash &shine' products.
Unfortunately you have done yourself no favours by applying bleach to marble - what on earth are you doing putting bleach onto natural stone - that may have permanently discloured it.
