Matt emulsion on top of vinyl... any issues?

I had several rooms skimmed with plaster. The price quoted included decoration with the plasterers providing the primer and undercoat and I would choose the top coat.

I bought a very matte paint but when I was delivering it I noticed several big tubs of white vinyl emulsion, which they are presumably planning to apply to the walls. Are there any issues painting matte on top of a vinyl?

There is still time to instruct them if there is a problem.

Thanks for your advice.

Oh yes, of course not a problem to paint over - and I wouldn't mention it to them! It's basically the same paint, the vinyl just has a little added to make it more hard-wearing, and you can wipe it clean - oh and has a very slight sheen to it too. It's pretty standard really and all of these emulsions are the same water-based paints and can be used together or over each other.

I do have to ask tho - primer and undercoat, for plaster?! There is no such thing. There is a 'mist coat' (sometimes two) and then just two coats of the final paint colour. Please check that they are not going to put PVA anywhere near that finished plasterwork too.

Cheers!

Yes, by primer I meant a diluted coat of emulsion.

I once did a house in vinyl silk or whatever it was called and I was disappointed. If you had kids or tenants or lost of drunken parties you might want to wipe those footprints off the ceiling... but under normal circumstance I don't know why you would use the stuff. I am also old fashioned in liking oil based gloss paint on the woodwork. :D None of the acrylic stuff.

Really, not that I am planning to do it but I am sure I have read that a good coat of PVA on the plaster...

I would have thought it would absorb humidity.

You may have read about PVA, but they do not know what they are doing imho.

It's easy really, emulsion mist coat will sink into the plaster, seal the walls adheres well and gives the next coats something to grab onto! PVA sits on top of the plaster, like a film and leaves nothing for the paint to sink in to. There becomes the problem with PVA, paint can bubble, crack, come off in strips etc.
