Please could you educated people tell me what is the Max Amp Capacity for a 6mm Twin and Earth cable.

Under what situations?
51 amps in it's most favourable install condition on tray, but take it as 46A for a domestic set-up when it is clipped direct.

Depends on a lot of factors:
Ambient temperature
How the cable is run (clipped to a wall, or in conduit etc etc)
If the cable runs through thermal insulation material
If the cable is grouped with other cables
What type is protective device is being used (e.g. use of the old type BS3036 fuses derates the capacity by a quarter)
You also need to determine the voltage drop so information is needed on the cable length and the current that will be drawn.
If you can provide answers re the above then a more detailed calc can be done.

Does it run through the loft space? Is it buried under the insulation, or in free air clipped to the timbers?
Is it bunched with other cables, and does it run in a conduit or trunking at any point?

12000 watts is more than 52 amps. You'll need 10mm cable and someone who knows what they are doing to install it.

Is this a domestic job? Tray will be hard to acheive/ugly in a domestic set-up.
Is the incoming supply big enough for this load with regard to everything else connected to the installation?

I suggest you seek a competant electrician to do this work for you.

He tells me its for his colleagues commercial premises, I take it he cant use 6mm then.

Tell him to leave well alone.There are all sorts of issues if doing it for commercial premises (EAWR1989, insurance etc)
One of the requirements of the EAWR is competance, which by the questions being asked is obviously not there.
