Hi all,

Just bought a new 6A MCB for lighting circuit. It is rated at 10kA, the old busted one was 6kA. Is the new higher rating OK to use for domestic lighting circuit? Its a Hager.

Cheers!

yeah its fine

10KA mcbs are normally used in commercial and industrial situations where there is more risk from very high current short cuircuits but there is no problem in using them in a domestic CU provided they are of the right size and shape.

Type C breakers often seem to be 10KA presumablly because they are rarely used on domesic installs (though using C6s for lighting is starting to become more popular as people get fed up with B6s tripping on bulb blows).
