Do you have any info on whether is has been running recently or was it put away last year and doesnt start when taken out this year?
First check that it has good fuel in it and nothing stale that has sat there for a while. If its two stroke ensure that the fuel is mixed with 2 stroke oil to a suitable ratio.
Remove the spart plug and with it connected to the plug cap, place the spark plug on the engine body and pull the starting cord to check to see if the plug is sparking? Don't do this after recently filling/emptying the fuel from the tank.
Can you feel compression in the engine when pulling the starting cord?
Can you find the choke on the engine, is it in the on position |/| when attempting to start?
Can you see the fuel lines from the tank? If so when you pump the primer button do you see fuel coming up from the tank, priming the carb and any access being returned to the fuel tank?
Little 2 stroke engines have small carbs on them and can easily block up after a prolonged period of sitting.
Check the above for fuel, air and spark to start with and go from there
