Can anyone think of the cause for all the upstairs lights not working. The MCD seems fine and all i did was turn it off to replace a fitting.have tried to replace bulbs and did a reset but to no avail.
Do you mean MCB? Is the fitting you replaced the first in line? Have you checked your wiring in the new fitting? It is possible that the MCB has failed as it is a mechanical device, but from simply switching it off / on I would doubt it. If you want to check it use a multimeter set to volts AC to check the voltage on the outgoing side, you will need to do this with the CU switched on and the cover removed so if you are uncertain at all, it is best not to do it and call in someone who knows what they are doing.
You have replaced a fitting and now the lights don't work?
50p says you have not connected it right.
Please describe the fittings, the wires, and what you did.
If you have got a multimeter (not a neon screwdriver!) and can safely test the wires and terminals in the fitting, I think that would be better than opening the CU.
Have you got a digital camera? A pic of the wires in the fitting will help.
