Media wall DIY

(Doesn't have to be your partner; you clearly have the vision, the practical aspects aren't so difficult they will defeat your passion here)

Creating a fake one of those is about the easiest part of the job. I wouldn't move the fire though
Wouldn’t it be better to get the fire more into the room? If we build the chimney around it worried the heat will get trapped and not fully circulate the room! Could do it and then always bring it out further afterwards..

More into the room by how much? To my mind it's about 300mm-ish; enough to form a depth of breast to make the visual of a media wall work out. I don't see it having a significant effect on the convection rate of the fire, especially if if you angle the sides leading to the fire. If the fire is easy to move, go for it, but it does seem like it could be the biggest challenge of the job..

Yeah, the breast depth will come out to cover the hearth, and I guess I can just keep the opening wide? The current recess (is that the right word) is tight around the wood burner - wasn't possible to make it bigger was restricted by the external chimney, but the fake one can be made as big as we want?!

Get a pen and paper, take some measurements of the wall and draw roughly what you want with some dimensions on it and we can probably give you a rough cost of the price for a tradesman to do it, we'll also need to know what county your in.

You'd need to do the above for anyone you want to quote for the job anyway.

Basically this… I’ll work out the dimensions!
