meile g686 sci - leak and blockage

Afternoon

My Meile has developed some sort of blockage the result of which is that the hose taking water into the salt reservoir from the big tank in the side (rinse aid ?) pops off when the machine turns on and water fills the base.

The draining side of things seems to work fine so i'm pretty sure its something to do with the filling side. Any ideas how to test this or what could be wrong?

I'm running out of ideas

sorry to reply to my own thread but i have some more info

I've now taken the big water inlet-softner thing out and have given it a good soak hoping that it might have unblocked something - no luck

the water seems to go into the bottom of this device through a big orange cake type thing and out the top of the big cake thing.The left hand side of it is where the salt goes.

This cake thing seems to be solid has it "set" or gone off? is that what is stopping the water?

Orange cake thing
That is an integral part of the water softener unit & it is supposed to be orange.
Check the solenoid valve on the "orange cake thing" isn't kaput.
