Has anyone got a Windows 7 32bit PC comfortably running with 1GB of RAM?

My machine is a Barton (Athlon) 2500+ based machine and I'm wondering about moving up to Win 7 from XP.

With only 1GB RAM I would not even consider installing Windows 7. To run comfortably, 2GB is the minimum in my considered opinion as a IT Systems Engineer. I know that many netbooks come with only 1GB RAM and Windows 7 Starter Edition, but these "limp", even with the display set to Classic View. Also, you will need to check out your video adapter to ensure that, if it is on-board, the amount of System RAM set aside can be increased, especially if you want to run the Aero theme. Alternatively install an add-on graphics card in one of the slots.

Thus, in conclusion, unless you can upgrade the RAM to at least 2GB, stick with Windows XP.

Thanks for the replies.

Regarding density of memory, I'm trying to establish which my existing Samsung pc3200 module is, high or low.

I've looked on the rows on the black chips but can't see any reference to memory configuration.

Is there a software utility that can identify memory density?
