My mum have asked me to fit a grab handle in the shower area, was told by the Disabled shop that the handle will have to be bonded. If so, how is this done, is it earth cable though the wall? Not heard of this, if this is the case then I will get a sparky in. If it's too much problem, I may see if I can get a heavy duty plastic handle but a metal handle will be a lot stronger.

Assuming the handle is just fixed to a normal masonry wall, this is not required. (If your wall is of some metal construction you might have to work out what is the right thing to do.)

Wrong. Not necessary and not advisable.

Tell the disabled shop to stop giving dangerous advice.

Having said that, if it were connected to metal building structure in the wall then it could need bonding but just fitted with wall-plugs and screws - no. it would be dangerous if it were.

The worrying thing is that this shopkeeper has probably been giving this advice out for about the last 30 odd years

I see this quite often. Bonded isolated metallic handrails fixed to masonary that are clearly not extraneous conductive parts. This is a pointless exercise.

You can get plastic ones that are very strong and up to the job.

.
For masona's information.

Not only pointless.

It introduces a danger that wasn't there before.
