Hi all

I'm in the process of replacing a plastic switch with a metal covered switch.

I was wondering if its ok to remove the earth wire that is connected to the wall box and connect it directly to the earth point on the metal switch instead of adding a piece of earth cable (dont have any) between wall box and switch?

Also wonder if i use the 2 green earth wires in the box?

Thanks in advance

picture below to show the wires in wall box if this helps?

Yes the earths must go to the faceplate and ideally to box too however this is not essential as the box will be earthed by the screws.

You must use BOTH earth wires as one is the earth from the consumer unit ( fuse box ) and the other will be the earth to another item.

It is a good idea ( even necessary ) to check that the earth wire does have continuity to the consumer unit.
