You would not look like an idiot - you would just look like any other customer who has paid to get an expert in to do the job that they are trained, qualified and competent to do.
However, that doesn't matter because there is no electrician - you're hoping to get "the right answers" and save yourself £200 by doing it yourself.
Seriously, I wouldn't bother. It's not going to be as expensive as you think to get a professional in (a real one, not the imaginary one that is "coming on Monday"
