Would having microbore pipe for the central heating have any effect on how hot the house will get? Reason is a family members house is out in the country and only has a coal fire for the heating, no mains gas or tank of oil/gas. The rads do seem to be hot to the touch and water is fine but the house is always cold. Could it just be a insulation problem within the cavity( if it has one) and a lack of loft insulation?

well...thats a question and half

Could be many things

bad insulation
drafts
undersized boiler
undersized rads for the rooms/house

microbore is ok..if looked after etc and fitted correctly (ie the rads should be fed from a manifold and normally only one rad per run from the manifold.
they need to do a house/room heating calculation etc and see if rads are big enough

I will find out what insulation they have in the loft. I dont think they will have much in there and i doubt the walls have any in them, most likely what was in there years ago has turned to dust.
