If your DSLR has a suitable mic socket then Yes. If not, then No. Kind of obvious, surely?

See Ebay - completed listings. Or search for specialist video enthusiast forums.

The going rate for used gear is generally 30% of retail so long as it's still current technology. You can get more if the gear is lightly used/unused and has some of the manufacturers warranty remaining.

i have canon 700d which has mlc input.newer model is 400d i wondered if newer models are digital and older one are not.

AFAIK the EOS 700d has a better spec than the 400d. I know because I have a 400d. There's no movie mode feature on that one but there is on the 700d.

The mic socket is designed for a simple analogue mic, so the Sennheiser will work just fine. The camera converts and records the sound digitally just as it converts light and records that digitally. Just plug in the mic and use it.

It would seem it down to tax laws and cameras which can work with still and video have a higher tax in some countries so the video feature was dropped on the lower priced cameras this seems to be true with all camera makes.

Although my Nikon D7000 will take a movie it is the SD cards which are the problem even with twin cards there is a limit to movie bursts which varies according to quality recorded at and card rating. So I still use an old tape digital camcorder for movie which can record 90 minutes without a break.

I tried with a direction mic but found it too much hassle and built in mic was not bad anyway.
