If leaving a property empty for a period of time, with heating off, what is a sensible minimum temp to set the room thermostat at to switch on the heating and protect against freezing pipes etc?

or 60days insurance varies , BUT , timescale was not provided.

I have known someone who was away for 6 weeks and not covered.
When Mother-in-law passed and the house was empty , Most insurance companies wanted heating on 24 x 7 at 17C or all water drained from Tanks & CH. One even wanted the loft hatch left open.
!!!!!!!!! this was 2017.

That's more than 30 days, that's why they weren't covered.

A snag with draining down is that the rads and pump etc then have air in them and are left wet; a recipe for rust and pump seizure.
