Mira Elite ST Shower - Rear Feed ?

Does anyone know why Mira state that a 'rear' entry cold feed requires a soldered elbow to the 'swivel' connector in the shower housing ? (effectively making it 'top' or 'bottom' fed)

It would make my life so much easier to just be able to connect it straight to my (tank fed) cold feed coming straight out of the wall.

According to the MIs this is to avoid the need to recess the compression connector into the surface of the wall (MIs 1.7 & 1.8)

Thanks, has anyone got any tips for fitting an elbow into such a tight spot - especially when it has to allow for subsequent tiling !!
