mira excel shower dial sticky

my 84 year old mother mira excel shower dial has gone little sticky! this has happened after few months of no use! Is there anything i can do to lubricate? any help and advise will be appreciated. thanking in advance.

Cartridge is failing.
new one retails about £100
two cartridges for this shower depending on yr they changed about 2003.

the shower is pre 2003. i hope i have not confused you the problem is sticky flow knob and not the temperature dial!! if you still think it is the cartridge then how easy or difficult is replacing the same. thanks in advance.
