We would like to put a mirror in our cloakroom toilet, as shown in red highlighted area in diagram below.

Is it best to get someone out to professionally measure this?
Any recommendations on firm to use?
Anything to watch out for in spec?

I've always find that glaziers are happy to work with a full size template made from 4mm MDF or hardboard

Yep make a template, mark where you want any holes drilling, decide if you want the edges processing, write it all on there and leave it with them, also make sure its safety backed as well

If your sticking it to the wall do not get it safety backed, ask for safety strips and apply mirror adhesive between the strips

Ok, will make a template from mdf, and mark where I want holes drilled.

I'm unclear what "safety backed" and "sticking it to the wall" mean/involve/require - can someone clarify?

Safety backing is clear heavy duty polypropylene film applied to the back of the mirror, like a wide roll of sellotape really and its designed to hold the mirror together if it cracks, you can imagine if it breaks without any backing all you'll have is the four corners still fixed to the wall and the rest will be on the floor.....not good

Don't forget to mark the orientation of the template (i.e. "FRONT" on the front).

Mirror adhesive (a specialised type of silicone) can't be used in conjunction with safety backing to fix a mirror because it can't adhere to the safety backing alone
