Hi

I understand that C20 concrete is the replacement for 1:2:4 concrete.

When they say 1:2:4 is this by weight or by volume ?

If you used the same size of bucket for the mix would this be correct ?

How much water do you add ?

Cheers

1:2:4 is simply a ratio, either by weight or volume so long as the sizes are the same/similar.

it is not an exact science, it would not hurt for example if you were slightly heavy on the cement.

make sure it is properly mixed and enough water is added as to make the concrete workable.

too dry would be if you tipped it out of the barrow and it hit the ground with little or no slumping.

too wet would mean the concrete sloshing around in the barrow like a liquid.

ideally you would still want the concrete wet enough to pour.
