Hi all

Im sure this is a quick question for you.

What mix of ballast and cement should I use for the footings of a garden wall? From looking around on the net I seem to be getting a 4 to 1 ratio. would you say this is correct?

6:1 is a typical ratio for foundation concrete.

Make it stronger if you wish but it won't make an awful lot of difference other than take away any risk of slight miscalculation.

We normally hoof in 12 shovels (ballast) and half a bag (cement), whereby the cement bag is unceremoniously split in half with three stabs of the shovel over a flattened part of the ballast heap.
