Mixer Tap

Hi,
I've replaced the hot and cold bath taps with a new mixer tap, I've got good flows through both hot and cold supply, but when I try to mix both with barely a trickle, and I do mean a trickle, through the cold supply, the water flow is good but only lukewarm.

Would a single check valve or an equalising valve make any difference, or have I bought a dodgy tap? it's a Roper Rhodes tap and not a cheap one.

What is the hot and cold system? Is the hot and cold water fed from cistern or off the water main?

Have you got a hot water cylinder or a combi boiler?
