We've have a couple or so threads on here relating to some marvellous model layouts - trains etc and not the ones that some you pervs immediately think of  .

So I was thinking of getting my old n gauge out and setting up a line around the garden. Trouble is that track is just so expensive. So has anyone got any ideas as to how one could manufacture the stuff or a workable equivalent for a reasonable price?

No idea, but if you get it going can I come and have a go? Have you got a train drivers hat I could wear?

Absolutely, if it comes to fruition. But I need to find a way of making the track. Currently thinking along the lines (pardon the pun) of routing out a groove in timber and finding a way of sticking copper core cable to the side somehow.

There must be tons of unused track lying around the sidings of most train stations.

n gauge is a bit small virtually anything flying round the garden will turn into a derailment

there is no way you could manufacture your own track cheaper than you can buy it keeping in mind the time ellement

you will need nickle silver rails as steel will rust

yep sorry added the link after you looked at my post lol
my oo layout used to be in my dads attic has layed in boxes and under the bed in my house for 30 years now lol
it was 12ft wide by something like 34ft long and the main circuit was over a scale mile long
so at 76 to 1 that = say 1760yards = 23.15 yards or 70 ft
