Hi all.

Need my old lead water mains replaced and hoping we can go with the moling option. What should I be looking/asking for from anyone doing the job, any insurances, certifications, qualifications etc. I should be making sure they have before carrying out work? First time I've had a big job done like this.

I'm in Belfast, Northern Ireland if anyone has any company recommendations.

Just trying to prepare if moling isn't an option and we need to dig trenches through the house...

Planning to replace my water mains and hoping we can mole to limit damage inside, problem is where they would need to mole would cross my gas pipes and electric supply coming in from the street I think. Does this make moling a no go?

Find a firm with a genuine web presence and evidence of doing bigger jobs in the public/private sector. Decide what size pipe you want, a larger bore gives better flow, but may not automatically justify the extra cost.

Check Insurance very carefully, and ensure they will take full liability in the event of an issue.

Used to be a Firm round here who did a lot of work for the Water Company, that was until they moled through a large live water main, closely followed by a large live gas main, and flooded the town gas network. It took weeks to get all the water out the gas pipes, every property had to be checked and reconnected to gas, god only knows what the bill was.

The Firm who were doing the Moling went out of business as a result.
