The UK government has successfully recruited an additional 1,503 GPs since 1 October, as part of its Plan for Change.

I hear the latest figure has topped 2,000

Presumably there are older ones retiring at the same time.

I went to our local surgery, new GP black as the ace of spades, he said I need to check you over before I can perscribe anymore iboprufen, I said where are you from, Malasia he said I said your very dark for a malasian, most are like Chinese, ah he said Im Indian stock and we are darker, ok I need to check your reflexes, Im there with shorts on and he's clonking away at my knees with his little hammer, youv'e got no reflexes I know I said because Iv'e got metal knees, didn't you spot the scars, won't be seeing him again, probably daddy got his medical degree from the bottom of a Kellogs box

The trend in my neck of the woods is for G.P's to ' job share', i.e. 2 doctors = 1 job. The Health Board loves it, as there's now ' more doctors than ever ' ( even though the same number of full time posts as years ago) and the G.P's love it as they've now got half a week they can work privately !

The surgery where I am registered, do not have a single English name on their latest list of salaried doctors. All of the nurses and the two paramedics are of English stock, but not the docs. The two owning partners are of Indian stock, but no longer work in any of the surgeries or in the large open plan office. No, they just seem to sit back and count up the monthly wads in their bank accounts. Occasionally I'll see one of them breeze in and take a few folders out with them, but nothing else.
