I was watching a program earlier ( the real ER or something.. ) and some bloke had fallen through a skylight and broken his ankle, and as it turned out fractured his wrist.
they couldn't send him home because he couldn't use the crutches with his fractured wrist.. he could grip things but not put weight on it..
now the old crutches used to support you under the armpit and the handle was just for holding on to and manouvering it, but the new ones all put all the weight through your hand, wrist, arm and shoulder.. which from the example above, is no use if you have weak hands, wrists, elbow, etc..
