That's the Tory government for you.

"Compassion" is their middle name.

Unfortunately "Fukcall" is their first name.

hurrah for Universal Credit! Don't let those sponging parasites get away with anything!

"A former military man who is confined to a hospital bed says he has been told to ‘get a job’ by the government.

Kevin Barnes gets just £16 a month in Universal Credit and has been told he must show he is serious about getting back into employment.

Kevin’s life was turned upside down a month ago when surgeons decided his leg needed to be removed."

"Despite this Kevin, from Plymouth, Devon, has been told by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) that he can only claim £16 a month in Universal Credit. This has left him unable to pay his £410 monthly rent and he is now in dire straits."

No doubt he will be required to return every six months for a PIP assessment to see if his leg has grown back. If he misses one, his benefit will stop. That'll teach him!

Hurrah for Iain Duncan Smith!

In other news,
State handouts to the undeserving poor should not be paid in cash, or in any form of liquid currency. Indoor relief is the answer. It should be so harsh and forbidding that nobody would ever want it.

The 1 per cent of taxpayers who pay the most contribute 27 per cent of all income tax.

And the multinationals who weasel their profits overseas don't.

So you'll applaud this:

"Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has vowed to tackle the ‘tax and wage cheat culture’ of multinational companies who ‘rip off’ workers....

...Speaking outside an Amazon depot in Sheffield, the Labour leader set out his ‘fair tax programme’ to clamp down on tax dodging..."

"...Mr Corbyn said: ‘We’re here to say to big companies that operate in Britain that in future you’re going to have to pay taxes on all your operations in this country – you will not be able to offshore your tax bill to some lower tax regime."

To be fair John, I think you would benefit from researching the causes of this tax evasion, number one cause is globalisation and one of the chief enablers of this has been the EU. What's the alternative?, I think this is a global problem beyond the remit of any political party.
As has been touched on in various threads, stamp it out in this country and it moves to another country leaving this country poorer. It's a global problem that needs a global solution.

Thank God we've got the G7 and the G20 to do this very thing. I doubt 'steptoe' is the solution, not that I have that much more faith in the g20 anymore.

Are you saying the EU is a chief enabler of globalisation? Eh:?:
Its true the EU is at forefront of stopping tax evasion.

I think fillyboy is arguing that staying in the EU is the best way to tackle tax evasion.

Over the past few years, the EU has repeatedly shown that it has the courage to stand up to tax avoidance. It is not only individuals, but also multinational corporations, that are unwilling to pay their share.
In 2016, the Commission ordered Apple to pay €13bn in tax after it broke state aid laws, while just this month it ordered Amazon to pay €250m in unpaid back taxes. And the EU is willing to go further, with plans to rewrite the tax rules for technology companies, after a report revealed tech firms pay under half of the tax paid by traditional companies.
