Sadly I have frequently seen all sorts of cables tywrapped to all sorts of supports including cold and hot pipes.

Indeed I have seen, and been party to the reworking of, a 3/4" steel pipe at each end of which was a T piece, stuffing gland and horrible mess of putty. This was found when water started coming out of the wall.

I got it a bit wrong, it was a 2.5mm feeding a 3KW water heater over a basin.
I hope this works ok sorry about the quality, the pics were taken in the 70's photocopied, hung on the wall a few times, faxed then photographed to get them here.
