I’m about to attach 300mm paving along a small wall, single brick thick, which is retaining the lawn behind it. So the paving will be like coping stones on the wall, but paving on the earth behind the wall. I’ve put a channel of concrete behind the wall to prevent the paving sinking if it gets stood on, but I’m unsure what sort of sand in the mortar mix I should use?

Building sand mortar along the wall and sharp sand mortar behind that, or just building sand across all of it since It will be on the concrete?

Plain old building sand would do it all in my opinion.

Thanks that’s what I’m thinking as I’ve effectively created a foundation for the back part of the slab to sit on, rather than just the earth where i would use sharp sand
