Well if we are getting the big fat ones like they have in Italy, then I'm all for the lifting of restrictions on the use of DDT....

I lived in Singapore for three years, even there they were not really a problem, there were council workers going round with pump action sprays on their backs and they would spray all stagnant water leaving what appeared to be a petrol film floating on the surface, the larvae hatch in water and breath through a "snorkel" the film simply cut off their air supply.

It's good to see that admin have removed comments posted by JoeVI and not a moment to soon either.

A year out of date :D

Yeah I know,I posted the link because the wet weather was blamed last year and the op was wondering if the warm weather would bring them out this year.

Lost on some.

When my ex came back from Italy, from seeing her relatives, she was bitten so much and so badly she had to wear pyjamas with socks tucked in. Came up in amazing welts!!!

Strange thing was the indigenous people were not bothered by them :?

I have noticed over recent years, me and others have been getting bites just from working in the garden here in The Midlands. Never happened 30 years ago...

Starting about now. August is their main month.

a couple of years ago we bought one of the zappers from the pound shop and it kept my son occupied for hours in the garden attacking the wasps ...best pound I ever spent.. he was so delighted with it that I got him one for xmas.. he wasn't pleased at all .wonder why

Was staying at the mrs uncles mill a couple of weeks ago, the surroundings were flooded about two weeks earlier. It was that bad you couldnt even go outside usually its not too bad, hot and wet is the key to the mozzies.

We have had a few over the past few days but I use one of those plug in things from Boots which sorts them out in just a few minutes.

Keeps them away from buzzing round your head at night. But not much good for sitting in the garden for a bbq.

I found, when I used to smoke small cigars, that a useful side effect was to keep away mosquitoes and other small insects. Unfortunately, it was a rather expensive solution, which is why I eventually gave it up.
