OK chaps...

I have a cast iron bath to move from an outhouse, to a first floor
bathroom. Having carried it once from trailer to outhouse, with a
neighbour's help, I'm aware of how unbelieveably heavy it is.

It needs to go up a flight of stairs with 3 winders at the bottom. The
stairs are newly fitted, and have newel bottoms but no balustrade.
They are stained and varnished and need not to be dinged or chipped.

There is nothing available upstairs to attach a block and tackle to ;)

Other than brute force, can anyone suggest techniques for getting it
up there without damage to stairs, bath or workforce?

Cheers
Richard

lots of straps round it for various hand holds.
padding on th feet if you can't remove them.
moving blanket fo protect the floor / stairs.
fridge full of cold cans.
barbequeue set up in th back garden and some decent grub ready to go on it / being cooked by the missus while the boys do the heavy grafting..
then invite 4-5 mates round for help with the promise of refreshments after..

Bubble wrap the newel bases, ply sheet all the way up the stairs, make up a large skates with fixed wheels [6 wheels will do] and small timber baton up ply to form two guide rails the width of wheels, bit like a wooden train track, then rope with a couple of people at top of stair and one behind it to steady in, tip bath onto base of stairs upside down onto skate and drag up.Cross baton every 300mm in center of ply two width of track and person behind drops a piece of 4x2 behind skate at each baton to act as safety brake[also gives them purchase on the slope]. Simples ;)
Or buy a crate of beer and have a bath moving party and invite everyone you know.
