Hi all,

I am planning to replace my kitchen in the near future and was wondering about the rules for electrical work in kitchens. I realise that much of the work comes under Part P, but how about moving existing appliances, sockets, cookers etc.? No additional spurs or load required. Is that notifiable work? Also, what is considered good practice for extending wires via junction boxes etc. in kitchens?

Thanks in advance...

1) All of the work comes under part P, as does anything you do to/on/with your fixed installation anywhere in the house/garden/etc.

2) This work in the kitchen is notifiable, as it involves new fixed cabling.

3) Junction boxes should be accessible for inspection & testing - better to replace cables rather then lengthen them, or 2nd best use crimps to join.
