Moving meter/fuse box from garage to outside box?

Hi, we plan to move our elec meter/fuse box from our garage and thought the easiest place would be to an outside box rather than back in the house. Mainly due to less disruption/mess and also not to take up space in the house.

Can meters/fuse boxes be installed in an outside box?
And can this be done by any good electrician?

Thanks

Your DNO would have to move the point of supply, and putting the CU outside is not the best idea.

The DNO will charge you quite a pretty penny to do the work, and moving the entire CU would also not be cheap.

The DNO will probably not want the CU in the same outside cabinet as the cut-out & meter. So you should plan on mounting it inside "back to back" or more or less! (though tails should be preferable no more than 2 metres long, 3 at the absolute max)
The other possibility is to mount the CU in another box alongside, but the damp conditions might not be the best for some CUs
