A couple of questions relating to repositioning the washing machine I'm afraid. I'll need to replumb for new cold feed and waste pipes, it won't be near the sink or anything convenient like that!

1. There is a mains cold water pipe I can tap into, which presently only feeds the boiler's manual top up inlet. It's in 15mm copper. If I choose to use one of those taps which cuts itself into the pipe, what then happens to the bit of copper cut out? I don't want it floating around in the pipe causing damage.

2. The real pain of this job is going to be the waste. I'll need to run it along a wall for 2m before dropping it down and then through a wall to join the downstairs WC waste under the WC floor (trap first). How much drop do I need to give it as it runs along the wall? How often should it be clipped to the wall?

Anything else worth bearing in mind? I have a certain amount of experience and am comfortable with joining pipes etc.

Many thanks for any advice

It will float about and go somewhere you don't want it to. :(
Also, these self cutters only cut a small disc of copper out so you will have reduced flow to your machine.

One inch drop per metre will be sufficient, and clip it every 500 mm :D

Thanks BAHCO, I'm going to solder in a t-piece, you helped me make my mind up! Never used waste pipe before, anything to know? I guess it's all push fit is it?
Also, the WM flexible waste pipe will hook over a downpipe, any rule of thumb on how long the downpipe should be?

My w/m says it has a delivery head of 1m. Does I take that to mean it's OK for the top of the standpipe to be 1m above the waste outlet on the w/m? That would help, I'm stacking the dryer on top so it will still be hidden.

JD

just a bit shorter than m/c

Thanks breezer. So the standpipe top will be just below the top of the w/m, but how long does it have to be before I can turn through a right angle and run the waste pipe along the wall? I want to keep the waste pipe as high as possible to clear obstructions. I intend to fit a trap along the horizontal pipe after turning the corner.

Thanks.
