My door has broken

Help....My UPVC door handle/lock has broken Was supposed to be taking my kiddies to se ethe Christmas lights etc tomorrow but can't leave the house because door won't shut...It is one of the ones where you have to lift the handle first then turn the key. Tonight the handle won't work it is completely loose you can spin it all gthe way around! The door is barely closed can anyone help???

Could you board it up, as you would after a burglary?

if the latter close the door leave the light on and enjoy the day

or ask a neighbour to baby sit the house
