this thread is to try and help others understand the mechanics behind the increase
i am fairly low usage so present standard charge is £183 and units £1040 so roughly 1/6th
---------------------------------------new charges charges 251 units1665 so roughly 1/7 th

the way the standing charge and unit cost are set up lower your unit consumption the higher percentage the standing charge is
in my case annual electric £400 at1800units now £580
---------------------gas £ 640 at13850 units now £1085

standing charge electric £88 to £152
---------------------gas£95 to 99

all rounded off including vat + or minus perhaps 2%

I 'gasped' when the 'toyshop' electricity (3P) went up last year Standing Charge 38ppd, unit charge 28ppu.
Next month the house electric goes to Standing Charge 50ppd, Unit charges (Day) 33.5ppu up 9p, (Night) 18.5ppu. This time it's 'shock' time. Only bought in energy is electric.

Apparently the increased standing charges are to pay for energy companies that went bankrupt and their customers moved to new suppliers, green levies and increased costs for maintaining the systems.

Yesterday I looked at a fixed price contract, using my yearly usage.
I pay £1100 per year for both.
The fixed price tariff was £2600:eek:

Think I’ll stick with the price cap increase.

I looked at uSwitch yesterday.

Ha,ha. The best price was 7 thousand 2 hundred and 50 pounds MORE than I'm already paying................
