my boiler has a mind of its own when it comes to igniting. Sometimes it ignites straight away, other times it refuses for up to a minute before igniting and other times it doesn't ignite at all.

Here is what i know, it has nothing to do with the ignition and sensing electrode as it is the recommended 4+/-0.5mm, nor is it anything to do with the water pressure so what on earth could be wrong with it!!!!!!!

More likely to be associated with the fan or APS.

These however are safety devices so should only be investigated by a CORGI registered engineer.

i spoke to a corgi registered engineer, he said something bout the thermoconverter or something....he was utterly useless

I'd be checking out the Room stat and that it is wired up correctly first.
Has it always been like that or has it just started?

it started about two weeks ago...but it has had many problems in the past..but the could usually be fixed be adjusting the ignition and sensing electrode...but that is not the prob ths time

i desperately need a reliable source of hot water..please help

Then I go along with Tony's theory of fan / air pressure switch but theres a few other bits as well so before I open my mouth and put my foot in it again could you be more explicit about whats going on.
Does the problem arise when calling for HW or CH or either. When you call for heat what happens? Does the pump run? Does the fan run? Is the fan noisy? Can you hear sparking?
Likewise whats the situation when you turn a tap on

Check out This site For Manufacturers instructions.

You have been told what it might be, now get a proper engineer to look at it and stop wasting time,

the problem arises when calling for either the HW or CH.

when call for heating the pump and fan run, the fan is not noisy the boiler attempts to ignite/sparks several times sometimes before igniting and working fine.

other times it does not even spark but remains on demand.
However, when it is like this, if i turn the hot water on slightly the boiler ignites and the CH starts to work but if i turn the tap off the CH again stops.

When i turn the tap on the fan and pump work but the boiler trys and ofen fails to ignite (clicking/sparking starts for 5-10 seconds but fails to ignite and light returns to 'on demand')

your help is much appreciated, thanx!

Some of the "proffesional opinions" are i'm afraid less than that,
in response to your issue the answer a believe stems from the pump overrun thermostat which is responsable for allowing the pump to continue running after heating cycle is finished in order to dispel any residual heat. If this is not the case the boiler will lock out preventing gas from entering the equation hense the ignition attempting to occur but not happening.
and i would then bet that if you leave the boiler for several minutes it will the fire on demand until the cycle then shuts down and so the whole cycle repeats it's self
one way to check this is to turn the boiler water pump up to speed setting 3 and see if the boiler the runs for longer before locking out
if you need to order a pump overrun thermostat then search google for 404497 Pump Over run Thermostat which is avialble for around £10

Quite apart from your spelling which is hardly very professional, you make your first post to a thread dating from four years ago!

Its not clear to me why you think that the over heat stat has anything to do with the boiler not igniting.

If the pump had a speed setting then dont you think that it will already be on settting "3" ?

If you think you are a professional and are gas safe registered then why dont you post in the Combustion Chamber?
