Upon needing more hot water this morning, I switched on the boiler and noticed the following -

The boiler would switch on as usual and after 30 secs you start to hear banging inside the boiler, then the ignited pilot light would return to a small flame and the boiler would switch off (as if I had not switched it on). After about 20 secs, it would then repeat this process until I decided to switch it off my self from the timer.

I have tried this for the HW, CH and combi of both on the timer.

This evening I have tried it again and now the boiler is no longer igniting. However, when I feel the boiler there is something happening inside as there are vibrations - which seems to be as if something is still working insisde.

Can anyone help?

my 1st thoughts were pump causing banging and clattering. has this been checked is fan running boiler igniting?

just tried again...switching on the HW causes the boiler to ignite and work again with no banging but switching on the CH is not causing the boiler to do anything so basically, I am without heat.

Any ideas on this....

if you getting hw but no heating i'd be pretty sure its your 3 way valve, this should be located in the cupboard where the hw cylinder is usually above pump if its a fully pumped system like. check where pump is see if any valve above it brass usually with a box on top with a wire coming out of it

I am assuming that the red box thingy in the cupboard which is very hot and has marks on it indicating highest to lowest ( i think it is the pressurre indicator) is the pump....assuming that this is true, there is nothing else above it.

The only other things in the cupboard are 4 knobs which seem to be controllong flow of water through pipes...however there are only 2 that are turnable the rest are not.

But still I dont undersatnd, when i switched on HW this morning, the banging of boiler started, why is it not doing it now?

i would of thought it be fully pumped ie needing diverter or zone valves after pump. only other guess is pump is sticking not running to its full capacity
