We had the same problem and found the internal flue had rusted through and were mixing the fumes with the fresh air, remove the top cover from the heat exchanger to check this, the flue is no longer available.

Seeing as the threads 5years old im guessing they no longer have the boiler!

Apart from replying to a five year old posting you are advising a DIYer to do something which should be touched by a Gas Registered person.
