Mysterious ducting in attic / loft

Hi,

I have just gone in the loft for the first time and found a large ducting pipe (in the pictures) which doesn't seem to go anywhere.

It's seems to be cemented into the chimney on one side and the other side is just in the middle of the loft. It has some sort of clamp around it as though it was once linked onto something.

Has anyone got any idea what this is for? It's concerning as I have a gas fire which uses this chimney and was wondering if fumes could be coming out into the attic,

It could be left over from some ones canabis experiment, were does the ducting go?

Do you have a bathroom extractor fan?

Hi,

There is an extractor fan but it leads to an outside wall, and the bore of this ducting is much larger than the extractor fan,
